Harmonic Inc. is a U.S.-based technology company specializing in the development and marketing of video routing, server, and storage solutions. The company serves content production, processing, and distribution businesses, enabling the delivery of video content for television and the internet.


Harmonic was originally founded in California in June 1988 as Harmonic Lightwaves and later re-incorporated in Delaware in May 1995. Anthony J. Ley became CEO in November 1988, following the company’s establishment by co-founders Moshe Nazarathy and Josef Berger.
In 1993, co-founder Moshe Nazarathy led an R&D center called “Harmonic Data” in Israel, partially funded by the U.S.-Israel Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation.
Key milestones in Harmonic’s history include:
February 29, 2016: Harmonic acquired Thomson Video Networks.
January 2022: The SBTVD Forum approved multiple technologies for SBTVD 3.0, including MPEG-5 LCEVC, V-NOVA, and Harmonic’s submission.
