The company develops and markets networking products, including routers, switches, network management software, network security products, and software-defined networking (SDN) technologies.
Juniper Networks initially focused on core routers, which internet service providers (ISPs) use for IP address lookup and internet traffic routing.
With the acquisition of Unisphere in 2002, Juniper entered the edge router market, where ISPs route traffic to individual users. In 2003, Juniper expanded into IT security with its JProtect security suite before acquiring NetScreen Technologies the following year.
In the early 2000s, Juniper expanded into the enterprise segment, which accounted for one-third of its revenue by 2005. Since 2014, the company has focused on developing new software-defined networking (SDN) products.
In early 2024, Juniper Networks agreed to be acquired by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) for approximately $14 billion.
